I agree with this issue about the new guide. I am going to try the Series options tonight for Sportscenter and see if I can get it to filter to one time only. I will post back if I find the solution!
You are correct, the new guide must show a series as "New" in order for "New episodes" to count and repeats to not be recorded. What the guide needs is a Manual Recording feature where you set up a show and channel to record a show each day at that time, and on that channel. I am going to check for other timing options. For Sportcenter you would need to look for an option. (if it exists.)

Correct, setting episodes to "New Only" won't doing anything because Sportscenter has no new distinction in The Guide. The older SA-model boxes, as slow and sluggish as they are, I recall could do the example above, even though they did not have manual recording.
For reference this is the New Guide. Navigator 8.0 in TWC Legacy Markets on all modern boxes.
