This has happened twice now in the last couple of years, and with two totally different DVR's (a 2 chan. and a 4 chan.) whereby something hangs up and I have to do a reboot and when it finally finishes loading everything, then the *list view* of the recordings has totally changed and is no longer organized in folders with newest additions up top (as it had been previously).
Both times, I called TWC / Spectrum and got a snooty "Yeah that's just the way it is now and it's suppoed to be like that so just get used to it because it can NOT be changed back." I even spoke with a lead tech who told me the same, and then also a supervisor.
Finally, after going through all that and then ultimately getting disconnected from the supervisor, I decided to reboot it for a 3rd time and this time instead of using the on-screen "reboot set top device" command, I just unplugged it, let it sit for a bit (3 min.) and then plugged it back in. When it finally finished rebooting, EVERTYING WAS BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN. Everything in folders, nicely organized with newest up top.
Pity we have such clueless rep's working at Spectrum who adamantly INSIST it's impossible to solve this maddening "ugly surprise" from a reboot . . yet I did it. So it all boils down to either a) Don't use the onscreen reboot feature; always unplug, wait, replug instead . . or b) This funky view-change of the recordings list represents a bad reboot / upload, and needs to be redone again . . and it may possibly be better to use the unplug/wait/replug method vs. the onscreen reboot feature.
Hello,
I may have had this problem only once, but I know some people where this has happened to them more often. A Navigator software update went out, or is soon going out, so maybe this folder listing bug will be fixed.
Using the Reboot Set-top-box, now with a name change to "Reboot Spectrum Receiver" in this latest Navigator Guide build, will allow for a soft-reboot of the box. A power off of the box and unplugging it, than waiting several minutes and plugging the box back in, known as a Cold Reboot is more thorough.
Don't reboot too much. It can put a strain on your equipment, and should only be used when there are box problems. If you have repeated issues with the guide and folder list data, you should get a service call set up to test your signals and drop-line. Avoid resetting your boxes or any other equipment for at least six hours prior to your service call, as this resets the error codes to zero that the tech needs to see.
The listing data error sometimes occurs when the box loses it's two-way communication with the network servers.
