I just subscribed to the extra innings package and I noticed the tv picture is not using the full screen. Is there any way I do away with black bars at top & bottom of the screen?

Hello,

The following assumes that you already have an HD set and an HD cable box correctly hooked up via HDMI or Component Cables to receive HD, if you don't have both, you will see the black bars on ALL MLB Extra Innings stations that transmit in HD:

Additionally, some  of the MLB channels may not be broadcasting in high definition, which would explain the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.  It depends on your area and your cable box.  How old is your cable box?  The older boxes, ( Approximately more than six years) use MPG-2 technology.  If your division uses those boxes and technology, you will only get the first two of the MLB Extra Innings channels in HD and black bars on all the others. The remaining channels will be in SD, showing the black bars.  If you have a box that supports MPG-4 technology, you will get more of the channels in HD.  Probably all of the games in HD.

Boxes that run MPG-2 technology: (SA Scientific Atlantic, often Motorola and Pace models.)

Boxes that rin MPG- 4 technology: ( Arris, Cisco/Techicolor, Samsung models.)

What is your city, state, and zip code?  If you provide that, one of the mods could investigate whether you're Spectrum area is running MPG-2 or MPG-4 technology.  Contact them via PM with your account information.  Ask if your area is running MPG-2 or MPG-4 technology.  If you are an MPG-2 area, a newer box will not bring more HD channels to MLB Extra Innings.  (It will typically be only the first two MLB channels that will be in HD with no sidebars.)  If you are an MPG-4 area, than you would need an Arris, Cisco, or Samsing box, to get many more, if not all of the games on MLB Extra Innings in HD.

Most areas should be MPG-4 ready, If your division is, and you subscribe to MLB  Extra Innings, or any one of the Seasonal Sports Packages, I would recommend strongly that you upgrade to a hardware capable box that runs MPG-4 technology so that you can have the full true HD sports package experience.
