Got a world box DVR and since Westword came back on, twice it has shown up as recording but nothing there to play. It just happen again tonight but doubt anyone can say why. The box has been restarted many times since that is the only thing Spectrum wants to ever do or say.

Two other shows at the same time have been recording with no problem. The space shows 0% cause I detete everything.  Not sure if its just the DVR or another spectrum system oddball error.  It would also be nice if they would increased the bitrate on some of their channels, cause they look bad when its dark and most shows are dark.

What's up Rider?

Is Westword the only show in which you are having recording trouble?  Under DVR Manager for recording conflicts, do you get any error messages pertaining to the show and what is the message and the number in parenthesis?

You mentioned most shows are dark. What was the make and model of your previous box, and was the reception brighter on those boxes? All TV's will experience what is called "Half Life" as they age.  When the brightness goes down to 50% of where it was when the TV was new, the set has reached "half life."  How old is your TV?  Are you using an HDMI cable?  Have you tried a new HDMI cable to see if that makes a difference in picture quality?

Rebooting the box won't solve this issue, and too many reboots may strain the box so be careful.  My recommendation would be to put a watch on the DVR for the next five days, and record Westword again, with only that show scheduled.  If the problem does not go away by Friday, you will need to contact Spectrum for a signal and drop line test.

Before your appointment, you would avoid rebooting your equipment of any kind for six hours to accurate readings of the error codes that the tech needs to see.  When the tech comes out, you will need to tune to the channel that Westword is on, and tell him any of the recording error messages that you saw when you tried to set up a recording.  A new box will not solve bad signals.  Bad signals are usually the result of a bad drop line, animal chews, inside or outside wiring, an issue in the cable tap. any one, or more of those things.

The brightness would be a separate issue having nothing to do with drop line or wiring signals.  That could be a bad box, HDMI cable.  It could be something at the headend regarding the transmission of that channel.  You may need to adjust the brightness or black level on your TV to brighten the screen.  It could also be that the picture quality and brightness could vary somewhat from box to box.

If the issue with Westword does not resolve itself by Friday, I would call and set up that signal and drop line test.
