If anyone out there is using the anti-spam feature on the McAfee software provided by Spectrum I need some help setting it up to filter my RR webmail.

When I try to add my RR account information into the webmail rules section it appears to accept the information but it never gets added to the list.  It may be I am entering the wrong info in the boxes but it does not give any error message when I click "apply".

I am entering the following:

In the webmail address box I assumed they meant the webmail login URL which I believed to be "mail.twc.com", however whatever I type into this box is automatically repeated in the "user name" box, so I'm not sure what it's really asking for since I did not think the webmail address and user name were the same thing.   The other boxes I filled in per the instructions on the spectrum FAQ page:

  • Account Type: IMAP
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.twc.com
  • Incoming Server –IMAP port: 993

If I could get the software to accept the account  info it looks like it may help with the spam because it appears to have a lot of customizable rules you can use for filtering.

I understand gmail has some type of spam filtering feature, but If possible I would prefer not to switch, since outside of the spam issue I have not had any other real problems with the RR email.

Greetings,

There are two issues.  One is that McAfee is a resource hog, and provides at best only average protection.  The other is that Spectrum no longer updates the legacy TWC Roadrunner email system.  You are using an email provider that is fifteen years out of date, and an AV that is slowing down your computer more than protecting it.

If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, I would completely uninstall McAfee and use the built-in Windows Defender.  In Windows 10, Windows Defender is really good, lightweight and fast from the 1709 build on upwards.  I would also get Ad Block Plus in each of your Web-Browsers.  (Make sure you only have ONE AV on your system as more will conflict.)  Also, only one Ad Blocker per browser.  You must remove all McAfee products completely before activating Windows Defender.  Uninstall McAfee products and than reboot,  Than turn on Windows Defender.  You will be amazed at the speed of your computer with McAfee off of the system!  If you have Windows 7, use Microsoft Security Essentials.  If you get Microsoft Security Essentials, make sure that you get it from Microsoft's site.  Check the URL, carefully.

Ditch Road Runner email, and use Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Outlook.com after installing Ad Block Plus.  You will have a more modern interface, better security, more storage, AND the ability to manage your email from any computer or other device anywhere in the world with a web browser and Internet Connection.  Ask yourself this question, If Spectrum announced that they were going to discontinue the legacy TWC Roadrunner Email accounts in ninety days, where would all you messages reside?  They would be gone and you could never get them back!  However, with a Webmail provider, you will never had this problem.  As long as you log into your account periodically that you use for Webmail, you will have that account for the rest of your life.
