A lot of us have shared issues with McAfee. I assume that you are running Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I would recommend uninstalling McAfee and turning on Windows Defender. Make sure you remove McAfee completely before turning on Windows Defender, as two AV's running in real-time can conflict. McAfee is too bloated, and provides only average protection.
You will be amazed at the speed boost of your computer with McAfee off of it and Windows Defender on it instead. Make sure that you close out of everything and reboot after removing McAfee.
If you don't already have a decent Ad Blocker, (more than one per browser can conflict) I would also recommend Ad Block Plus for each browser on your system. It really helps block the banner ads on websites that can lead to malware.
Also, make sure your Operating System is up-to-date. Hope this helps!
