Hi Cable Ain't Working,
First thing to do would be to schedule a signal and drop line test to see that the cable signals and wiring inside and outside the home are OK. A swapped box won't fix bad signals.
Avoid the rebooting of any boxes, modems, or routers, for six hours prior to your service call. Reboots of equipment set the error codes to zero. Make sure that you have no splitters involved with your cable connection as those can reduce signal strength.
If the freezing is happening on on channel more than others, tune to that channel when the tech comes so he can take a reading. The tech should also check main wiring such as in your basement, and the drop line outside.
If those signals are good on his meter, the box will need to be swapped.
