Doesn't matter which remote I use with my EXP8300HD-DVR, pressing the channel up or down button doesn't take you to the next channel, but instead to the next on demand channel.

For example, pressing the channel up button when on channel 7 will take you to channel 250.

Hey Red,

Check your guide filter and make sure that "All Channels" is selected.  On most boxes, this is accessed by pressing the Guide button twice.  Now try to do the channel buttons.  If this does not work, power off the box and unplug it for at least one minute.  Plug the box back in and allow it to reboot.  Does channel up/down now work?

WOW!  You have an SA-8300.  That box is about twenty years old!  I will bet that it is slower than snails.  Are you having trouble with it?  If not, that is amazing that that model has lasted for so long. You should hang on to it for as long as you can if you do not have any problems.  If you are having trouble with it, you may want to set up a service call where you will DEFINIETLY get a better box, with more storage, and a faster guide.  Just calling in to Spectrum and saying your box is slow will get somebody out to update your equipment,

If you set up this service call, have them put a signal and drop line check in the Work Order.  Things like slow speeds, pixilating picture, freezing channels, and On Demand, require a signal test and drop line test.  To prepare for this test, avoid resetting any boxes, modems, or routers for at least six hours prior to your service call.  The resets of any equipment will set the signal error codes back to zero, and the tech won't be able to detect a signal problem if this is the case.  A new box will NEVER solve bad signals, so if you get an upgrade, it is best to have a tech come out to do the signal and line test.  You will get an updated converter.

If the Guide Filter change and or cold reboot of the box does not work, you will than need to set up a service call for a signal and drop line test and a more modern DVR.
