My Suggestions,
I would not recommend the manual updates. Turn automatic updates back on I would say. It's too easy to miss something. The default is automatic. But you can defer updates at least in Windows Home for up to 35 days, which is good. (In seven day cycles.) Pro might be many more days. Version 1909 has a feature that will auto roll-back an installation for up to a month if something goes wrong.

Update regarding Windows 10 updates:
Don't turn off the automatic updates! The setting that says, "I have a metered connection so I want to disable updates." You NEED patch Tuesday updates! That is one of the most important reasons for moving to Windows 10. Keep your monthly security updates turned on and set to automatic at all times!
However, you CAN hold off on the feature updates to Windows 10. These are OPTIONAL. They are new build versions of Windows 10 that Microsoft releases every six months. These are NOT the critical updates. They are new and revised features to the operating system.
Windows 10 Home users can delay BOTH Patch Tuesday security updates and feature updates for up to 35 days ,in seven day cycles. This delay is OK for feature updates but patch Tuesday updates should be applied within a week of release regardless of where you are on Windows 10 Home or Pro.
Windows 10 Home and Pro users, should both set updates to automatic, and get their monthly Patch Tuesday updates, installing them within a week. Don't hold out on Patch Tuesday Updates! Those are the security updates! Pro Users, you can hold off on feature builds for up to 18 months, just like Home Users. But when your Windows build is about to expire within that 18 month time frame, you will automatically get the new build for the lifetime of your device. This is for security reasons.
