Eventually legacy TWC customers will be forced off once Charter decides to kill it all together. Most providers are moving towards cloud based On Demand and DVR services and looking to do away with physical DVRs, albeit this is some time away for Charter/Spectrum. Others already do it or it's coming soon (Comcast X1, SlingTV, Vue, Directv Now, Hulu).
Here is the latest information on Spectrum not doing Whole House DVR:
If you are on a legacy TWC WHDVR plan, you will be able to keep WHDVR until you switch to a Spectrum Plan.
- Most divisions (not all) will allow you to keep your six-tuner DVR's when moving to a Spectrum Package. Hopefully this is permitted for all, once the transition is complete.
- Spectrum plans to reintroduce WHDVR with a "World Box" feature, where this new box will have many tuners, a;llow cloud-based storage, and all devices affilated with Spectrum will be able to be a DVR. But World Box is not expected to be out before 2018.
- Charter/Spectrum at one time had WHDVR, but discontinued it around 2013. Most believe it was for cost-reasons.
