Even the stores themselves vary by what they have in stock. Traditionally speaking a handy tip for the guides is this:
Legacy Motorola boxes- Run an older version guide called I-Guide. It shows it's age, but the boxes are at least 5-10 years old.
Legacy SA boxes- Are also about 10 years old and run a slightly watered down version of the guide formerlly called Navigator. A bit more modern than I-Guide. The problem is Spectrum has reportedly been shipping out refurbished boxes such as SA's and Motorola's, just as TWC was finally getting them out of the field.
Motorola was bought out by Arris. The newest boxes are Arris, Cisco, and Samsung. Those boxes have the modern guide on them (Modern Navigator) with expanded DVR storage, enhanced search, and cover art for movies and shows. I wish all Spectrum customers could experience the best guide that Spectrum has. However, it is sad that depending on where you live, and if you have a really old box, or a refurbished box, you may never see the very best guides that Spectrum has to offer. Given the amount of money being payed to Spectrum by it's customers, Spectrum really should work on getting all divisions connected with modern cable TV interfaces and boxes.
You wouldn't sell a car that was fifteen years old and pretend that it's new technology, or have a 10-15 year old computer sitting on your truck waiting to be swapped out to another unsuspecting customer. Direct TV and Dish Network don't give out 10 year old receivers, yet many cable companies from Spectrum, Cox, Comcast, and WOW! are giving out refurbished equipment. I don't understand that philosophy behind how a business benefits from giving out 10-15 year old cable boxes? The newer boxes, less than five years old are out them! Distribute them instead!
