There are things I like about the new search, and some things I don't like:
1.) In regard to the original post, the problem with "Search Now" (The old A button Access Menu in Navigator), was that it brought up only a limited selection of channels within that category. I would like to see a small dot indicator showing the programs that are playing now when searches are conducted.
2.) Browsing through shows on the new On Demand Cover Art menus can be tedious. This is because all of the Premium On Demand Channels no longer have a search keyboard option when accessed. Spectrum needs to add a search keyboard to the Premium On Demand Channel interfaces, just like the search that is provided as an option when the On Demand button is pressed on the ADSG (Advanced Digital System Gateway) boxes.
3.) Show searches are missing results in the guide system on the advanced search boxes. I illustrated this with GSN's version of Match Game not showing up in search results on Nvigator's ADSG boxes in previous posts. Listings are more complete, although limited to keyboard title search on legacy (SA model) Navigator boxes. It's a double-edged sword:
A.) Navigator SA legacy boxes give more reliable search results but keyboard is limited to Title Search only.
B.) Navigator ADSG boxes have more ways to search via advanced search, but Time Grid Cell data often does not appear in keyboard searches at all. The advanced search boxes are less reliable in returning keyboard search results than their legacy counterparts.
C.) Since the ODN 8.0 update to advanced set tops has been rolled out, other problems with the search/DVR functionality remain:
a.) Year of movie release data is often wrong in search results.
b.) Shows may not playback from the DVR manager list, especially if more than one episode is in a folder.
c.) Searches may show "Not available" or never ending "Loading Data" sequences, where users are forced to exit out of the navigation. (press Exit) or hit the left arrow to go back to the previous screen in Navigator.
