The best thing to do, is don't use Spectrum for your email provider. Spectrum was never intended to be an email company. The email quality is poor concerning both features and security.
Get an ad blocker for each of your web browsers. (Only one per browser, uninstall others as more than one will conflict.) I recommend Ad Block Plus. It blocks about 99% of those banner ads. Than, sign up for free Yahoo Mail, Gmail, or Outlook.com With Gmail you will get a Google account, which will give you access to other great Google Services like Google Drive. (An Online Office Suite.) Outlook.com will give you a Microsoft Account with One Drive Storage, plus online basic version of Office Online. (Does about 80% of the paid versions of Microsoft Office.) I prefer Google for Office Suites because you get more storage than Microsoft Online and no Ribbon interface.
