I record roughly 20 Series. I have them all set to record NEW episodes only, yet 5-6 of them will record ALL episodes. This is not a case where the guide is accidentally marking older episodes as new.
For example: COPS is a series I record. It's also one that records ALL episodes. Considering how many reruns of Cops there are every day/week, I am sometimes stuck spending 20 minutes manually deleting scheduled recordings. If there happens to be a Marathon going on, well then....................................
I have complained numerous times and have been told I have to live with this.
Also missing from the new DVR Menu on these newer boxes is a time of day setting.
On the old Scientific Atlanta box I had you could select time of day and new or all. This setting might help to alleviate a portion of the problem.
The last phone rep I spoke to about this told me "Spectrum cannot control how Cisco builds and programs the software being issued", which to me is laughable, when I used to have no problems with the older boxes and it seems a large cable company might be able to influence how their boxes are built and programmed for their millions of paying customers?
I spoke to a supervisor and she told me she has to delete shows on her box at home, so she wasn't too supportive.
Do I indeed have to live with this if I continue with Spectrum?
I am a customer dating back to 1980.
Hello,
Good questions. Firstly, it is important to define what is considered a New Recording for Series programs:
A new recording in the Guide listings applies ONLY to the first time a show is run. This would be a new episode of a seres, which is generally than offered 3-5 days later on the stations' On Demand network. Only brand new series or one-time events count as New programs.
Once a series has had its initial run it is no longer new. If it is a Syndicated Show, you would have to check the guide and record those specific episodes that you wanted to see. Do you have an option to filter by time or channel under DVR record options?
COPS baffles me, because if you are flagging it to Save All, and Record Only New episodes. It should only be recording new episodes as this is still an active series. If there is a conflict with another recording, the DVR should automatically grab the next avaliable repeat episode of the live show that conflicted and record it.
Maybe Spectrum Staffers could test what is up with COPS and post their feedback in this thread? What is your city, state, and zip? What is the make and model of your box?
For setting time of day, what are the Record Show With Options that you get on your guide when you set up a recording? Use the arrow keys on your remote control that go left and right to select the options when hghlighted in the menu.
Please also list each series and the network that it is on, (not channel) that is recording all episodes and not just new when you have told the DVR to record just new shows.
