Hello,

I tried to watch a recorded program while it was still recording.  The screen had a message saying that if I wanted to watch from the beginning, press the restart button.  The picture of the restart button looked like a counter-clockwise arrow.  No such button exists on this remote.  At this point I must wait for the end of the film to watch from the beginning.  Pressing the rewind button did not work as expected; I was thrown back into the previous program on the channel I was watching. At this point I'm about ready to ask for the previous box and remote that this one replaced.

Thanks for any help

Scott

Hi Scott,

What guide do you have from this list? https://www.spectrum.net/support/tv/which-guide-do-i-have-t?redirected=true  Have you tried using the arrow buttons to move the highlighted prompt up or down when in the Record Options Menu?  You should be able to use the arrow keys in the remote and then after highlighting "Restart" press the Select button in the middle of the arrows.

You can always go to a Spectrum Store and replace the remote.  I recommend asking for the Clickr Backlite.  It is really good!  All the remotes work with all the boxes in the field.

Every time my remote fast forward or rewinds it gets stuck and I end up having to leave the program or just turn the tv off which is really annoying

Hello,

First try a cold reboot of the cable box.  Power off the box and TV and unplug it for about five minutes.  Plug the box back in and wait it to boot back up.  If your box has a clock, wait til it shows in the display.

Now turn everything back on.  Record a show completely to begin testing.  When the show has finished recording, play it back, and test the RR/FF functions. Wait for the buffer to show in the recording indicator of the INFO PROGRESS  bar (that fills will color)  for enough time to pass in the recording for Rewinding.  Than you can test both Rewinding and Fast-Forward functionality.

If the problem is not solved through the above step (or comes back.), we would need to send out a tech to preform a signal and drop line test.  Avoid rebooting any boxes, modems, or routers for six hours before your service call.  Reboots will reset the signal error codes back to zero, and the tech needs to see the error codes.  Poor code readings, from inside-wiring, splitters that are bad, or corrosion on your outside cable line drop need to be checked at this point.  A NEW BOX WILL NEVER SOLVE SIGNAL PROBLEMS! That is why your signals and line must be checked first.

If your signals are good than the box may have to be swapped.  The tech will do that if needed.

Thanks, Satch, that's what I normally see, i.e. a button labeled "Restart"!  In this particular, however, that button was unavailable from the DVR menu.  Not the first time I've seen glitchy behavior.  When I try to program the channel 17 11pm news as a recurring recording, it only ever gets the one I selected to program the series from.  I may have to take your advice and return this for the version you suggested.

We have the top guide called "Spectrum Guide" we received this DVR and remote when our older Time Warner Cable DVR failed (the one label ODN Guide with the Remote Control on the left. Is that the Clickr Backlit you refer to in your post?

Thanks,

Hi Scott,

I will add a picture of the Clickr Backlight Remote.  Oh yea, and that's another thing with the new Spectrum Guide, there are some programs that are not recordable as a series yet.  This is a bug and Spectrum  is working on it, so this could be fixed in the next Spectrum Guide Update.  But don't hold your breath.

Many customers are very frustrated with the New Spectrum Guide and the new Remote.  ODN was SO MUCH BETTER!  The secret Scott, is that if the new World Boxes are making you crazy, you should go back to your Spectrum office and get a box with a clock on it.  Those DVR's unfortunately will only have two tuners instead of World Box's four tuners.

The best boxes are are the Cisco 9865 and the Arris 3600-M. Six tuners that run ODN Guide.  One of those would be the FIRST THING that I would ask for at the office!  They are a rare find, but are AWESOME! (They haven't been converted to New Spectrum Guide yet.)  The other boxes with clocks are two-tuners with ODN.  But at the very least if you get a clock box, you will get the better guide back again.

Spectrum Guide is actually getting better, but it's not up to ODN guide reliability-wise yet.

Here are your options:

1.) You go to the office and get the clickr backlight remote, keeping your World Box.  You won't be able to call Spectrum to get the remote, because you have no way of knowing what model they are going to send.  You will need to reprogram the remote for your TV when you get it home.  Instructions should come with it or just Google - Spectrum programing your remote.

2.) You go to the office and bring your World Box with you, swapping it out for a box with the clock.  Ask if they have one of the six-tuner boxes and get that.  Try to get the Clikr Backlight  remote as well.  Even if they only have the two tuner box, you will get your clock and old guide back.

3.) You call Spectrum, say you hate the World Box and New Spectrum Guide, if option #2 is a hassle and say you are having trouble navigating the new Spectrum Guide menus.  They will get a tech out, and I am sure that he will have a box with a clock.  You can also ask and see if he has a different model remote.  The tech will be able to program the remote for you when he is at your house and again, you will get your old guide back.

Note that Spectrum won't roll out techs just for remote swaps.  But if the tech is there doing something else and sees a remote problem, he can swap it out for you,  and program it as well.

Sup Toolman?

Most concerns that Spectrum gets are the EAS Alerts freezing up the box and than we have had cases where they don't go away after rebooting.  You are one of the first to mention the EAS system not working! LOL!

If the box functionality is OK, especially when the EAS system is gone, I would not worry about it at all.  The likely culprit is that your head-end has something screwed up with EAS Alerts.  It's not your boxes or signals on your end.  Put your city and zip code in a reply to this post and a mod can make a note of this and send it to your division.

You won't need to replace anything or do a service call.  It's how your division is sending out the EAS signals.  What you can do as an option, is take a screen shot of this the next time that it happens for us to capture the issue.

Been waiting for this forever!

Hopefully with the recent and ongoing server updates in legacy TWC/BHN markets to things like Remote DVR Management the Caller ID option for Spectrum CATV/Landline Subs I would HOPE would be out by the first quarter of 2020.

The big problem with not having it for customers who rely on it, is that it forces people to take one of the older clock boxes that doesn't have Spectrum Guide on it, just to have the Caller ID on TV feature.  I understand that it IS out on Spectrum Guide in legacy Charter markets, but not in legacy TWC/BHN markets yet.

If anyone even gets an approximate timeframe, please let us know.

Questions About New Spectrum Guide Remotes?

I have been getting a lot of questions from Spectrum Customers about the new remotes being given out with the World Boxes.  For reference, I am referring to the remote below.  Answers from the community to the following questions are needed by many:

1.) Where is the button on the new Spectrum Remote that Starts Over a program if Start Over is offered on the channel in question?

2.) How do you delete a series using this pictured remote in Spectrum Guide?

To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I wish I had come to the forum BEFORE replacing boxes, but I've never been disappointed like this in the past.

Main Problems:

  1. The 210 can not see DVR from my current Arris 3600.  I was told about this ahead of time, still doesn't make it right.  We've got 3 boxes in our house and in the past I've had 3 different box manufacturers running at the same time and both non Arris boxes could see the DVR on the Arris 3600.  Why can't the 210 talk to the Arris?!?
  2. Caller ID does not work on my new 210.
  3. DVR on the 210 does not let you specify how many episodes to keep.  Seriously, this may be the DUMBEST change and sets the box back by like 3 generations alone!
  4. I agree with others - the new guide is not user friendly (to be kind).
  5. Its only been 2 weeks, but i am really starting to dislike the new remote.

My question:I've noticed many Arris 3600's for sale on places like Ebay. Since Spectrum will not give me another Arris, can I buy a used one and have it activated?  Do I need to find a used TWC Arris or will any Arris get the job Done?

Basically, I'm paying $13 bucks/month for the crappy Spectrum 210 dvr box that only allows me to rewind a couple shows at a time... I can't believe all the other functionality I lost with a new box.  If I can't buy a new Arris, you can be darn sure I'll be getting a new Roku stick and use the spectrum app.

Nice work Spectrum, I thought new boxes were supposed to be improvements?!?

Couple of things,

No, you can't buy a cable box from Amazon or E-Bay or other vendors.  They have to be not only pinged to your account, but authorized by Spectrum.  Word of caution is that some of those bought boxes may be "hot." illegal.

All you need to do to get a box with a clock back is you can go to a Spectrum office and swap it out.  Just ask for a box with a clock.  They will have some for sure.  Tip is that the Techicolor boxes are better than the Humax boxes, but many people don't iike them.  No Remote DVR Manager on World Boxes either in legacy TWC markets.  Still waiting.

Not near a Spectrum Office? Call and set up a truck roll and get a box with a clock.  Just say you hate the new World  Box and need a box with a clock.  The six-tuner boxes with clocks for DVR service are the best, Cisco 9865 and Arris 3600-M.  They are rare though.  The techs have boxes with clocks.  Only two tuners, but you will get your clock and old guide back!

Oh, you CAN use your old remote with the new Spectrum Guide, so that's one consolation.  I have the Clickr Backlight and love it.  But I still have the better ODN Navigator Guide. The boxes with clocks don't have Spectrum Guide yet.

Yea, still waiting for Caller ID on TV to show up on the World Boxes.

Hope this helps.  Post back at what you decide to do here.

oh did you ever get that 6 tuner box?

Conventional TV video is not a profitable venture for any of these companies anymore.  Any sub video loses are more than made up on Internet and Mobile Phone.  I still like the TV options and have land-line service from Spectrum. but I am not a representative sample of most people,

If your box or other equipment  is slow. or poor in responsiveness, set up a signal and drop line test service call.  REMEMBER, NEWER BOXES WILL NEVER SOLVE BAD SIGNAL PROBLEMS.  Users will need to avoid rebooting any boxes, modems, or routers for at least six hours before their signal and line check service call  to avoid a reset of the signal error codes.  If your signals are good, your tech will update your box,  If you have never done a signal or drop line test service call, and you are having any problems with any Spectrum services, you should set up an appointment if you are having issues for say, more than a week, or it has become a day to day thing.

Not all the boxes are the greatest, but if yours is approaching ten years old, set up that signal  and drop line test.  Sometimes a new drop line or wiring will speed up the equipment, and sometimes the signals and lines will be fine, but the technology if its going on a decade old, consider updating.

Hi,

Just to make this as easy as possible.  And to keep the information updated, the first thing that we need to do is set up a service call to check your signals and wiring inside the home and outside the home.  This will provide a more direct investigation than can be provided with Phone Support.

The thing that you need to do is AVOID REBOOTING ANY EQUIPMENT SUCH AS BOXES, MODEMS, OR ROUTERS FOR SIX HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR SERVICE CALL.  A reboot will reset the signal error codes back to zero that the tech reads on his signal meter, and we need to have the tech see the error codes.  No equipment swaps will ever solve bad signals or line problems.  I would set up the signal and drop line test ASAP.  You can do this by calling Spectrum and speaking to an agent.

The signal and drop line test affects ALL Spectrum services regardless of how many of them you have and is the first step in the investigation.  Especially since this has been an issue for three years.  Don't forget to not reboot anything for six hours so that the service tech can get an accurate reading.

After your service call, tell us what the tech did.

I have my netgear router run off a 6' ethernet cable from the modem. My internet will just randomly drop anytime of day however it seems to really give issues between 6pm to 1-2am.

The cable is ran from the main line about 150' or so straight to the grounding block then into the house to a two way splitter then one to the cable box and the other to the modem. ive replaced the line into the house off the grounding block and replaced the 2 way splitter. None of those changes have made a difference.

My concern is the splitter,

Splitters can reduce signal strength and quality from 50-90%.  If you could find a way to drop the splitter and do a direct connection to equipment, that might improve, if not solve your issue.  I have seen and read cases where the splitters are the main causes of drops.

It baffles me why Spectrum won't check the main drop line?  That's the first thing that they do in a signal test.  What is your city, state, and zip?  My first recommendation would be to remove all splitters.  How about neighbors in your area, are they having issues?  No way that Spectrum at least in my market would let a problem like this go on for more than a week, let alone three years!  Something is terribly wrong here!

First remove the Spitters if you can, than unplug everything for about five minutes and do a reboot of all your equipment.  We have to get the splitters off of the equipment to get the best results here.

If you are still having problems after the removal of the Splitters, I would PM your account information to one of the mods, and look at getting this issue expedited.  Refer them to this thread.  By the way, any neighbors in your area also having issues?  We have to get this fixed for good!

Just came back to using a Spectrum DVR (from Tivo) and getting used to the RC122 remote again.  I have it programmed to turn my Sony TV on and off if I have pushed the TV input button. But if I leave it on the Cable input, when I hit power it turns the cable box off but not the TV.

So is it just a matter of remembering to switch inputs or should I just leave the remote on Cable and use the TV remote to turn it off and on?  Or is there a way to program the remote to always leave the DVR turned on?  I'm assuming if I turn the DVR box off it won't record something I have scheduled?

My other issue is if I have a program paused, when I start playing it again I often get a crackling popping noise from my speakers. That seems like a bad thing. Any way to fix it?

Thanks!

Is there a way to do this? I don't want to have to keep

I would get a tech out because of the cracking noise.  Something is wrong with your set up.  Mention the cracking noise to the tech when you call for service.  We also recommend not rebooting any equipment, (cable boxes, modems, or routers) for at least six hours so that the tech can get an accurate signal/line reading.  Equipment resets will set the error codes to zero.  The tech will check your remote and reprogram it correctly.

If the On Demand issue does not clear up within about two days or comes back, you would need to call Spectrum for a signal and drop line test,  Avoid resetting any boxes, modems, or routers for six hours prior to your service call, to avoid a resetting of the signal error codes.  Equipment swaps never solve bad signals.  What is the error message that you are getting when you try to delete a recording?

Also on the recording issue, do you know?

  • The made and model of your box?
  • The type of guide that you are running?
  • Do you have the new World Box, without a clock?

5. Hit Cancel Recording

6. Confirm that you want to Cancel Recording

This will cancel all scheduled and future recordings of the series. Not the most intuitive process but it works.

Update:

There is a double-edged sword using this method:

1.) If there are more episodes of the series in the system database forthcoming, and can be searched for, using New Spectrum Guide  these steps will work.

HOWEVER:

2.) If there are no more scheduled episodes in the database of the series selected to be deleted, users will receive an error message

Have you tried Thunderbird? Used that for a while back when we got forced off of WinXP. Don't recall it having any restrictions on address books. The server that a list is going through may impose some restrictions though. Just saying... it isn't always a one-sided restriction causing issues  .

 My Thoughts,

Mozilla Netscape, became Firefox years and years ago.  I would be concerned about using Netscape being such outdated technology.  I recommend free non-ISP based email to everyone.  Either Gmail. Yahoo Mail, or Outlook.com.  Get a modern browser, such as Edge (Windows 10)  Firefox, or Chrome, and a good pop-up blocker for each browser to block the banner ads,  I recommend Ad Block Plus.  Have only one pop-up blocker in each browser, because more than one will conflict.

Outlook.com will give you Microsoft One Drive Free Office Access, and Google Drive will give you their free Office Suite when you sign up for their respective email free services.  The main reasons why I don't endorse ISP based email providers is two-fold:

1.) Cable providers were never intended to be email providers.  They are now TV, Internet, Landline/Voice, and Voice Mobile technologies.  Email is not their bag.  And Spectrum is only providing the old TWC Road-Runner Client as a courtesy to subs who still have accounts, in some cases business accounts with them.  The cable provider keeping their email servers up-to-date and secure is not exactly high on the priority list.

2.) If Spectrum decides to drop all email services, subs are going to be forced to change over or lose all their address book contacts.  In contrast, a free web-mail provider like Yahoo Mail, Gmail, or Outlook.com will be updated often, and will stay with you for the rest of your life.

What Operating System are you running?  If it's Windows, I would strongly recommend Windows 10 with one of the modern browsers, and Ad Block Plus for best security.  Windows XP and anything below and Netscape are no longer supported systems and you are putting your data at risk by using them.  Even Windows 7, goes off of Extended Support next year.  Use a free Webmail Provider with one ad blocker in each modern browser with a modern Windows Operating System.

Most of Spectrum's Guides  have sorting options and search options to find your networks easily.  In what city and state are you?  Provide your zip code.

If you have one of the last two guides on the page known as I-Guide or SARA, you likely have one of the older boxes.  Spectrum's newest boxes run modern cable guides such as Navigator (ODN) and The New Spectrum Guide.  Both modern software they contain easy sorting and search options.  How long have you had your cable box?  How well does it run?

As far as performance, there's always a momentary delay between when I press the guide button and when it actually shows up on the screen. Once the guide loads, I can usually only scroll through what is visible. If I try to scroll down to see more, the guide seems to freeze up for a few seconds before working again. This has acutally been an issue since day 1 of service. I recently tried to do a soft reset of the box to see if that would help, but knowing how the guide or box responds, I just typically turn it on and just watch whatever is on from the last tuned channel and then about 5 minutes later or, I scroll through the guide.

As far as organization, my last provider had everything organized. Every channel in the 1000's was HD. The 1000's tended to be the local channels and basic cable channels; 1600's were sports like ESPN, NHL, etc. 1800's were the movie channels. With Spectrum, there isn't any organization making it hard to find what I want to watch.
