Re: DVR not recording -channel unavailable

For the past few days my DVR does not record some scheduled shows. When I check the manage log it says it didn’t record because the channel was unavailable. Is there a fix for this?

Hello,

If you notice a pattern developing with the same shows and channels not recording, the first thing to do is to schedule a service call for a signal and drop line test.  Avoid resetting any boxes, modems, or routers for six hours prior to your appointment because equipment resets will reset the signal error codes back to zero, and the tech needs to see those codes to determine signal quality.

You will need to tune to the channels that often are not recording when the tech is there for the signal reading.  Make a note of those channels.  The signal readings will assess the quality of your outside and inside lines.  The tap on your drop should also be checked.

If your signals and lines are good, it is possible that the DVR may need to be replaced.  Note that if you don't see a pattern of recording problems, it could be a SDV or switched digital video issue, where there sometimes is not enough bandwidth in an over-crowded node for the signal to be sent to the box at the right time.  Not too much you can do about this issue if it is an SDV situation.  In rare cases, the guide data may also change the title or remove a show.  If that happens, you can also get the "Show Not Available" message.
