I understand hard drives. In my case they would not be powering up and down constantly they'd only spin up once a week to record 2 shows that happen to be on the same day at the same time.
No klacking can be heard just annoying sitting on the couch 10 feet away and hearing the hard drive spinning away. I see absolutely no reason the drive should be spun up if there is no recording or viewing of recorded shows going on.
Also I go to the TWC store and I've only ever gotten new equipment from there so I'd not be worried about getting someones old refurb.
I think it may have other problems as well as a couple times earlier I changed the channel and the picture stayed black but could hear the sound. Only way to get back the picture was to change channels back and forth.
Hey,
That's cool that your TWC store is not giving out old refurbished boxes! One thing with the picture going to black, assuming that you have an HD set you can under Settings and find Output Resolution. Put a dot only by the 1080i setting and save your changes. This can help eliminate that annoying "Fade to Black" if you are moving from an HD to an SD channel or vice-versa. I would suggest a cold reboot of the box. Unplug for several minutes, plug it back in to see if the black screen channel changing goes away
If the sound but no picture becomes an on-going problem, after the cold reboot of the box, and Output Resolution settings change, you may want to try a new HDMI cable. Make sure it is a good quality one. They will run at least $20. If the issue persists after that, call TWC for a signal and drop-line test. I would try my Output Resolution steps and changing the cable first.
