wrote: Help me please. My 8-10 year old Time Warner cable box is acting like an out of control preteen this past month. It’s fine a couple of days a week and other days it is constantly rebooting and I cannot control it with the remote or manually rebooting. Also, during its tantrums, the power switch will not respond to either the remote or button on the unit. The status display constantly cycles through dashes, u shapes, correct time, 12:00 and then begins the process all over again. I see a word that looks like “pull” very briefly, then more of this strange dance on the display. All wires secure and obviously it’s getting power or the screen would not display all the configurations. It is also attached to a smart TV which powers on and thankfully will let me watch Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and any apps installed. It can also work independently from the box even when the boxes power cord is unplugged. Yesterday I walked into my computer/sewing room and see the time is correct and the green power light on and it did it all by itself. Since it wasn’t time for judge Judy, I cautiously pushed the power off on my remote, and not only did the green light go off, but the display reacted by going through it’s tantrums once again. My question.....instead of my blood pressure taking off like a 747, should this box be replaced? My son in law says yes and the virtual assistant at spectrum says I need a cable card. My husbands older cable box, the silver one, on the downstairs TV, is working fine. Both are attached to two year old Visio smart TVs. At 76, I have enough problems with the aging process w/o adding a cable box to the mix. Thanks for letting an old woman rant and please help me find a solution.

This is a classic case of a bad box,
But we also need to schedule a signal and drop line test. Poor signals won't be solved by swaping out the box. Your cable lines and wiring should be checked. But after that is done, the box will most likely need to be replaced. A service call is needed. This has nothing to do with a cable card situation.
