After speaking with the TWC rep today I went with a Signature Home package that requires a whole house DVR, but I only have 1 TV so whole house doesn't make much sense. When I asked if I could get the package with just the enhanced DVR they said "No, it has to have whole house"

Since it seemed like only having 1 tv was a non-starter, I asked i asked if it would be affected by disconnecting the whole house box, say borrowing a neightboor's TV for installation then disconnect it, return the TV and just use the DVR. He said he thought it would work but wasn't sure.

Anyone had to deal with something like this? Can I temporarily connect it to a tv and then disconnect it and have it work ok? Or even better just tell the tech, no need to hook up the whole house part and not have to through the mess with a temporary connection?

Hello,

The reason why Whole House/Signature Home requires at least two TV's is because you need a clent (i.e playback box) on at least one set.  My recommendation to you would be just buy a second TV (on the cheep end, but make sure it's HD.)  You could probably spend  $399 and get a Gold Star or something.  Head over to a Bust Buy or Target and just say you need a basic no frills, but HD TV for a Whole House DVR set-up.  That should work.

Update: If you pick up a second HD set, you will need, if you don't already have another one,, an HDMI cable.  They run about $20.  TWC will provide HDMI cables on a new HD equipment install, but I have heard reports that the onces from the store seem to be better.
