Im getting ready to move in the next 2-3 months so I called TWC support on how to put my account on hold while I figure everything out. A man with a really thick indian accent answered the phone and told me that theres no need because they can swap the lines right over in an instant. Ok, cool. I also noticed on my bill that there was a constant $10 dollar charge every month that stated I was upgrading (not sure why, but I just paid it because i thought it was part of the contract after the promotion I was on.) I brought that up and this is where things went to absolute hell.
The rep on the phone told me that there is a special retention promotion for $44.99 a month for double my internet speed and free land line telephone for 1 year. ( alarm goes off... DOUBLE the speed of my internet PLUS FREE telephone for 44.99?? sounds too good to be true). I asked many times for him to verify exact pricing with fees. His exact words were "Yes yes, this is a double win win for you because you get free phone service with double the internet fee for cheaper than your original internet. If i were you i would take this offer immediately." While he was telling me this I was scouring google and the TWC for any hints of such promotion and couldnt find any... but when I brought that up he said, "This is a special tier 3 retention offer only. You will not see this anywhere but to those who are about to cancel a triple bundle package or any other high value bundle." So me being the guillible idiot told him to sign me up (after verifying out loud on speakerphone around co-workers, "So for 44.99, I will be getting the 300Mbps internet speed package and a free telephone line?" Which he answered estatically YES. So he puts me on hold and then tells me to verify to his identity machine regarding my contact information, full social, etc and new agreement.
After I hung up. Something bothered me so I called the same number back literally 15 seconds after i hung up. This time a native english speaker answered and I told him about my situation and that I just would like to verify with him the deal that I was signed up for. He tells me that the notes are being put in as we spoke and that he will read them outloud to me. His words were "you are signing up for internet and telephone bundle for 69.99"
WATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT@$%@#$@$#@#^
I told him that has to be a mistake as I have multiple witnesses and verifications that the quoted price was 44.99. I also told him the agent said it was the 300mbps package that comes with free telephone. The new agent noticed new notes in my file that said I signed up for a bundle for "lower cost" but was in reality a much higher cost for no reason.
WHY wouild I sign up to INCREASE/DOUBLE my bill?
The new agent told me that when their lines are busy, their support phone calls go overflow into third party vendors (this is the dumbest thing I heard). So this shady third party vendor literally signed me up for slower internet speed + a telephone package for no reason.
This is a scam.
NOT a misunderstanding.
Not only does my account now have a telephone line opened under it, my bill is now 69.99... I got completely scammed. What kind of company routes their account support calls to a third party vendor in which there is no oversight, quality control, or even name? The supervisor wasnt even able to find out who made the changes to my account!
No resolution and promised a callback, but this is something people need to know. That when you call TWC support, your calls could go to SHADY third party vendors that now have all your information and will open up unauthorized lines.
TL: DR - Third party vendor acting as support added lines and additional fees to my account while lying that he was giving me a tier 3 retention promotion. Literally doubled my bill.
Make sure you always call the number that is on your bill,
There are a lot of scamming Internet numbers pretending to be the cable, dish, or U-Verse company that are not them!
