After 2 hours on Live Chat and on the phone, doing reboots and finally a signal sending frenzy to all boxes, the DVR can rent movies. Only the DVR. I cannot access rented movies from any STB's other than the DVR after renting them.
satch;
The boxes are all new and latest releases from Spectrum.
They have had their serials and macs vetted by rep.
I have top tier digital TV, internet, and Phone
My account is not old enough to be delinquent
I am of the opinion that there is something up in the network (Modem / Router) that is preventing the other boxes from communicating.
I have no catagories of 'My Library" or 'My Rentals" in my menu as described on all the TWC/Spectrum "How To" pages. I only have 'In Progress' which I assume covers any shows or movies currently started and not finished. Nothing appears in that catagory on any STB's, only the DVR, even though I started the movie I rented and then stopped it to see if I could watch it in the media room instead of the 'zoo' AKA my living room.
Tech is coming out on Wednesday afternoon to check on the problem. maybe they will figure it out then.
Greetings,
The one thing that you need to keep in mind is that you cannot record Video on Demand movies to your DVR. You can only watch, stop and pause them for typically up to a 24 hour period, sometimes up to 48 hours from ordering the movie. Copyright protection laws prevent recording of them to your DVR.. If you go to an On Demand Channel to watch a movie, (Free or to Rent.) that movie comes from Spectrum's server and is downloaded to you to watch for anywhere from 24-48 hours, either for free or for a fee. You can play, pause and stop On Demand Content, but you cannot save that On Demand Content to your DVR.
It is exactly like you said, you have your In Progress bar for that 24-48 hour time for the movie, Remember that Video on Demand content is server-based, not box based. Pay-Per View refers to one-time special events, (with seperate showings and pricing for replays throughout the week.) This content may include concerts, championship boxing, UFC. Sometimes that can be recorded and sometimes not. It depends on the owner of the content and distribution rights. I hope this explanation clarifies things.
You can record anything g to your DVR that is not On Demand or PPV , as long as you are subscribed to those channels in your package. Can you set up a recording and play it back on one of the channels in the guide? (Any Subscribed Channel in the Time Grid that is not VOD or PPV.) Do you have HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax? Try to record from that and play back a show if you have those channels.
Can you watch a VOD movie? Does the "In Progress" prompt work? If so, there may be nothing wrong with your box or signals. Read below if Video on Demand comes up with a blank screen or some other error message repeatedly:
You did the right thing by getting a tech out. One of the first things that he should do is perform a signal check and drop-line test. Rarely are problems with On Demand and PPV programing the result of the boxes. Ask the tech how your signal levels and drop line look? There may also be an issue with the main junction box on your street. Mention this if the tech can't find an issue with theVOD signal levels or drop line. Please post back what the tech does!
Mobile application menus will be different than those of the STB. This is not a problem, but the way the technology is designed. Over time, Spectrum wants to make the guides on the boxes and mobile applications more uniform.
How are Internet and Phone working? If those are going out from time to time or are sporadic, that is definitely a signal problem.
