TWC came out with up to 300mb/s dl speeds. I opted for the 200mb/s dl speed, 20mb/s upload. Happy customer.
Spectrum takes over, I am now limited to a maximum of "up to" 100mb/s dl. Same exact hardware, nothing changed except the company name on the bill. Speaking of the bill, it went up.
Thanks Spectrum.
Signed,
Unhappy customer.
Costs are certain to increase. Expect a 5% annual increase rate on retail rates. More if your promotion ends. If you were on a legacy TWC Internet Plan, you can keep it, but be aware, if you were on a promotional rate and it expired, there will be no more deals for you. You will pay retail rates going forward. If you call to negotiate, and by chance you are offered a new bundle / promotion, you will be migrated to Spectrum, and you will lose (never to be gotten back) your TWC Internet Plan. You may also lose some video channels. So while you may get a lower price on your video (which mmay include less programming), you will certainly lose your now extinct 300 Mbps internet plan.
To add to this,
The news is not encouraging regarding deals for existing customers. The only way that existing customers seem to be able to get a deal is for example they are not a part of a Triple Play Package. For example, they only have Cable TV, Voice Service (Phone), or Internet. In those cases only, you can call Spectrum and they will put you in a promotion for 12 months of a Triple Play bundle. (Choice, Silver, or Gold.)
After that year has expired you will not be able to get a new promotion. Retentions will only allow you to reduce services. In order to get the best deals, you have to qualify as a new customer. To qualify as a new customer you must:
- Return all your equipment to Spectrum
- Pay any past due balances
- Be without Spectrum services for at least 30 days
- Call back after that month has gone by, and they will put you on a "Welcome Back" promotion for 12 months.
- After that, the cycle repeats itself
In very rate cases you might be able to go to a Spectrum Office and get maybe $5.00-$10.00 off your bill as an existing customer. However, if you switch from legacy TWC billing to Spectrum, all TWC codes are out of your account and can NEVER be brought back. You will lose Whole House DVR, and the reps may give you a hard time about keeping your six-tuner DVR if you have one. (Although this seems to vary by division.)
Gone are the days of being able to work with TWC Retentions each year to get some nice $15-$20 discounts, or allow only a $5.00 more per year increase instead of $30 or more. TWC Retentions was AWESOME to help. Spectrum's hands are tied by company policies. Only in the cases mentioned above, might you an existing customer be able to get a price break.
