Re: Phillips RC122 Remote Control

Got this from one of my tech guys:

The RC122 is one of the most TV unfriendly remotes out there from personal experience. If possible see if you could get a UR5U-8780 as that has much more compatibility with TV manufacturers.  Above instructions on programing the Video Source/Input Button should still apply with the UR5U-8780 remote.

Sounds like signal corruption affecting the modem.  You should avoid rebooting any boxes, modems, or routers for six hours prior to your appointment, to avoid a reset of the error code signals, so that the tech can see any fluctuating on the line.  Resets of equipment will put error codes back to zero, and you don't want that.

Any ideas on why? I'm a new TV subscriber.

Sup?

A few reasons why this is happening:

1.) If you have a Word Box- (A box with no clock) Remote DVR service is still being worked on, and you can't do DVR recordings remotely. There is no time for when this service will be released, but there will be an announcement on the forums when this happens, (Hopefully.)

2.) You need a box with a clock and unfortunately will likely be restricted to a two-tuner DVR if this is the case. Word Boxes have four tuners.  You will also need to wait for at least 48 hours after the clock box is installed for it to sync with the servers, for remote DVR to work.  You will be able to DVR at the box once the box is activated to your account, but you will need to let 48 hours pass before you can do remote recordings.

3.) Everyone at Spectrum from employees to customers is waiting for World Box Remote DVR services!  It will probably be coming sooner rather than later.  But the team can't release any official information until the engineers have a launch time set,

HBO Max Launches Today! (Free With HBO) On Spectrum

Guys,

Today, HBO Max launches! This is a new streaming service, and to get it for free on Spectrum, you just need to subscribe to HBO. The thing is this is NOT just another HBO sub channel. Deals have been launched with many other companies like MGM, Warner Brothers, Hanna Barbara to provide a very extensive library of movies, series/sitcoms, and original shows. Other companies may be launching shows on the service as well. More info here:

https://www.hbomax.com/

If you already have HBO and an online Spectrum Billing Account, just log in to the site using that information. Contact Spectrum for any first year deals. So this might be a good time to at least try HBO for a year if you don't already have the channel to get HBO Max for free.

Guys,

I was asked if Spectrum is providing any one year promotions for people who don't have HBO and just want HBO Max for less than $14.99.  This opens up three potential options:

1.) You can call Spectrum and ask the rep if you don't have HBO, could you get HBO Max for a lesser price for a year? ( I would estimate maybe you could it for around $11 for 12 months.)

2.) If you have CATV already, ask if you could get a deal on HBO for a year. (HBO Max is than free for you, even after the year expires.)

3.) With CATV, ask about deals for the Spectrum Silver and/or Spectrum Gold Plan, These packages have HBO already in them, so you would get HBO Max for free, and potentially a one year deal on Spectrum Silver and Gold packages.

Guys,

I heard that if you have HBO Now/HBO GO, that HBO Max is going to be offered through an automatic update on your mobile device.  (Everything on HBO Now/HBO GO is already on HBO Max) HBO Max has so much more content.

But some have suggested to manually remove the HBO Now and HBO Go apps if you have them, and than install HBO Max on your device. They said that if you don't, you might have trouble installing and activating HBO Max.

Hello,

What is the make and model of this modem/router? And in what city, state, zip, are you located?  Our community could check to see if there are noted issues with this combo unit.

First, call Customer Care and have them activate the modem to your account.  I am reading that this was a self-install, so you might need to call to get the modem to hold the connection.

Am I doing something incorrectly or has Samsung simply not added the App to its list ? How did you do it? TIA

 ,

For HBO MAX on Samsung TV, the authentication is a two step verification process. You need to launch the app, then authenticate on a mobile device or laptop.

To get started,  select source, then search and enter HBO MAX.  You will get an alphanumeric code on the TV screen.  Then go to https://www.hbomax.com/ and sign in.  Select "sign in through TV", then follow the steps to authenticate.  Enter the alphanumeric code from your TV when prompted and you should be set.   Let us know if you have trouble logging in.

Also on HBO Max,

If you have an old crappy computer meaning low on RAM. (At least 8 GB of RAM is recommended,) you will very likely have problems with HBO Max, where the video will not play at all (Microsoft Edge) or will sputter (Firefox.)  I know this because I have a crappy $300 4K RAM laptop that can do the basics like Internet browsing and You Tube videos.  But no streaming. Laptop can't do Flash videos either from Spectrum TV.) (If someone streams like on You Tube, no problems.)  In contrast, my desktop works flawlessly.

I contacted HBO Max's Customer Support Feedback on Twitter, (Offered 24x7 btw) asking them to provide a playback option that will downscale the resolution of the videos, so that older computers low on RAM, or cheap systems that don't have the graphics card hardware functionality to do the HD videos can still view them. They said they will pass this along to the development team. Here is a Twitter link to HBO Max Customer Care:

https://twitter.com/HBOMaxHelp

As it stands now, you will need a computer with 8GB RAM or higher supporting strong graphics card to watch,  My desktop from 2015 has 8GB of RAM handles HBO Max like a dream.  My 4GB RAM laptop can't do it. So you may want to check the RAM in your computer.  if you are having problems, and maybe also ask HBO MAX help to provide a resolution  downsizing option for the videos, so that older and cheaper PC's can handle the content.

I think it could be a computer memory issue,

My Toshiba laptop is almost six years old, a $300 budget thing. And it can do basic writing, browsing, and YouTube videos. Any kind of HD streaming on Spectrum TV.net or video content with Flashplayer, it just stutters on Firefox and doesn't even play on Microsoft Edge Chromium.  This above information is the same with the new HBO Max service.

In contrast, my Dell desktop has 8GB RAM, streams the above sites like a dream and works great!  It seems that you need at least 8GB of RAM and a decent graphics card to be able to do the HD type of streaming required at Spectrum TV.net and the other above sites that I mentioned where my cheap laptop has always had issues for years.

Jn my case, both computers run Windows 10 version 1909 and are up-to-date The laptop update to Windows 10, was an upgrade from Windows 8.1.  Back when it had Windows 8,1, it had the same streaming problems.  A hardware related and memory related incident for the laptop, that is preventing the viewing of streaming data on HD video sites.

I'm also answering Julia's latest questions in a direct reply to her message.

But to answer your questions:

Am attaching photos below. I also took a pic of the settings for the HBO program that does delete as well as the History screen after deleting everything.

It's hard to pinpoint the delay in time. When I was writing earlier, about 4 minutes. Just now, longer. However, I encountered other problems. Suddenly the full Menu and DVR Menu would not load and would only get the mini versions. After turning the power on and off several times, I did a manual reboot which solved that problem. But this time, it was about 10 minutes.

The box is a Technicolor 210 as was the box that this one replaced that had exactly the same illness.

I am located in La Quinta, CA 92253.

Now I'm off to reply to Julia's latest.

And thanks for your help too!

Thanks!

I only see triangles in your screenshots though.  I would not reboot or refresh the equipment too much though. The sounds more like some kind of guide/software bug.  If Spectrum can pin this down, they can open up a ticket on this issue.

The thing is that rebooting resets all error signals, whether you are rebooting a box, modem, or router, and it takes at least six hours for any error codes to come back. This is why so many people will not wait at least six hours, and will reboot the equipment before six hours have passed. Tech comes out and finds nothing wrong. This is because the error codes that the tech reads on his meter are reset with the reboot of any equipment and take six hours to come back. Keep this in mind for service calls.

But see what Julia's equipment reset options do for you.

Don't know if you saw my reply to Julia's post but the reset didn't do anything. I find it strange that it's only one channel. However, the fact that it happened on two different boxes (of the same make and model) would lead me to believe that it's a fault in the box (software or hardware).

I'll wait to see what she suggests before I put Spectrum on it one more once.

Thanks for your help!

My advice,

Don't do box swaps unless you absolutely have to do that.  You never know what you are going to get in a swap or an exchange!Reading the symptoms of your post information suggests that this is a hardware bug OR a listing bug with the Spectrum Guide software. A swap may likely not only NOT solve your problem, it may open up a new set of problems.

Since you also have not reported any pixilation or picture/sound drop outs happening consistently, we can rule out the signal issues. Box swaps will NEVER solve bad signals. Signal issues are related to problems with inside/outside wiring, the main drop, or something in your node. Sometimes signal issues can be the main junction box further down your street.  I would suggest setting up your recordings (both individual and series recordings) to "Delete When Space is Needed."  You only have 5% of your DVR storage being used, that's nothing! The modern boxes are 1 TB storage device with space for a solid 100 hours of HD programing. You have nothing to worry about!

Constant reboots or resets of equipment have a greater chance of messing something up than improving performance.  If you don't see an improvement after a MAXIMUM of two reboots within a small time frame, something else is wring.  I have gone more than six months without having to reboot my box,  Sometimes the boxes/modems/routers may reboot overnight between 12am-6AM for maintenance or software updates,  But this is a once in a blue moon thing,  If this is happening every night for more than a week, you need to contact Spectrum and if they are not saying on Voicemail that they are doing maintenance or have an outage in your area, than I would set up a service call, but  remember, not to reboot any equipment for six hours, prior to your tech vist to avoid a reset of the error signals.

Too much potential risk of problems with swapping equipment or needing to constantly reboot just for one channel.  If your storage space gets up to like 75% used, or more channels start showing this behavior, I would be concerned, but not for one station.  This is a listing or software bug related to the new Spectrum Guide.  It just isn't widespread enough to cause concern for Spectrum to open a ticket on it.  At least three people have to report the same problem in a given area in order for escalation of an issue to be given high priority.  I have been involved with Cable since 1985, and have a good idea of how these things work.

This is a know issue when the Gracenote listing database on the ODN Guide.

If ANY listing changes, between the entry to record a show, individual or serie,s and the database updates the listing, it is VERY likely that the show will NOT record.

For example, if you set to record a show called "The Mystery of Life" and the listing database updates, now calling the show, "Mystery of Life" there is a very strong chance that the show will not record IF the listing was not updated in DVR Manager, and still shows, "The Mystery of Life."

Using your example, for "Jeopardy" and "Daytime Jeopardy" the only workaround for the ODN guide is set up two series to record when you search for each name. One for "Jeopardy" and the other for "Daytime Jeopardy"

Two things to do that might help prevent repeat recordings:

1.) Under Series Options Select "Record New Episodes Only"

2.) Under Series options,  arrow down to "All Showings" and select Only the specific time filter that you want episodes to record. Do this by recording BOTH Jeopardy and Daytime Jeopardy in your DVR Series Manager with the selected time filter.

TiP-I have found that Gracenote listing data marks listings as new for at least 48 hours in the listings grid.  This means that any episodes flagged as "New" will still be recorded, even if the original new show was already recorded.  To prevent this, I set the channel filter to record only at a specific time for "New" episodes.  The guides still have not been smart enough to only flag an episode as "New" during it's first appearance in the Time Grid only.

Two things that I would add to HBO Max:

1.) Option to select screen resolution for downsizing-Helpful for computers or mobile systems that are old and don't have the RAM for the HD output to provide a better streaming experience.

2.) Right now, the user circles need some kind of cool graphics indicator to liven them up a bit. As it stands, one user, looks just like any other user. See here for example: »smartphones.gadgethacks. ··· 0311756/

Hello,

With World Box and Spectrum Guide there is a bug where the system is not able to delete a series unless an upcoming episode is in the database.  I think Spectrum has a ticket on this bug, but it is a known issue.  You can always post feedback about the guide for new features and update questions, and the mods will send that information to product development.

Re: More Problems with very old Adelphia email

Greetings,

To add to this discussion, the Adelphia/Road Runner email system is too old and has not been updated in YEARS. Spectrum has done some slight email modifications. But many of us strongly recommend the use of a free webmail client. Webmail will be yours forever, is updated regularly, and is more consistent with security and modern technology. Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook.com are all free and are all excellent!

The BEST Webmail Ad Blocker out there for all three of these free webmail providers, comes from web extensions developer and programmer Jason Savard who writes great extensions for the main browsers. (Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.) You can read his reviews online as well. Mozilla Firefox even recommends his email ad blocker:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/webmail-ad-blocker/

Go to Jason's site in the browser of your choice to get Jason's email ad blocker (below: )

https://jasonsavard.com/

Get his web mail blocker, I have not used his other extensions, but this guy has strong credentials as he works on extensions 24x7.  One note is that Jason's email ad blocker only works for Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook.com mail only!  It does not block other types of banner ad content on the web, so if you still use Ad Block or Ad Block Plus, keep using that for other content

The thing is that Ad Block Plus only blocks some email ads but not others, and Yahoo Mail has found a way to force people to turn off Ad Block Plus where you either have to accept Yahoo's crappy ads, or go to Yahoo Premium mail, for a monthly fee, or be reduced to a very basic free email.

Jason's email ad-blocker hides ALL banner ads in the above popular email programs, in fact, if I am at Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Outlook.com. I just turn off Ad Block Plus to avoid any conflict with Jason's extention. (But remember, do this only at the big three email sites above.)

Hello,

Very possible that a software update was pushed out where the boxes now come through with the native pass-through resolution supported by the channel.  Others have noticed this as well on Spectrum World Boxes (No Clock.)

If a series or show is not already in the guide database, you won't find it. The guide needs at least one instance of a show to be in the system for it to find the show.  Furthermore, old series that are no longer showing new or syndicated airings will not delete. This is a bug. Spectrum knows about this, but there is no ETA for a fix.

These elements might explain the problems with searching.  If not, can you please post a screenshot of what you are trying to search for and the results of the search.  Note that because the searches are cloud-based on all the new boxes, they may take from 12-24 hours to populate fully with guide data. This is because the guide data has to come down from the cloud servers, and synchronize with your box.
