Hello,
Although I don't have that box, I have had several boxes, and they all should work where when you turn on the TV, after the Quick Settings Menu goes away, you should be able to change channels. Even before the menu goes away.
How much time does the box have to be off before this behavior occurs? "Please Wait" messages should be occurring only during a box reboot, or in the process of a software update where you will see numbers counting down on the screen indicating this.
I would recommend cold rebooting the box to see if this resolves the problem:
1.) Power off the TV
2.) Power off the box
3.) Unplug the box for one minute
4.) Plug the box back in and allow it to reboot.
Test to see if this behavior that you describe comes back for at least 24 hours. If the problem remains, or returns following the cold reboot, I would recommend a service call to do a tech visit for a signal and drop line test. Specify this on the work order. A swapped box will never solve bad signals, lines, or wiring problems, so these must be checked if the cold reboot of the equipment does not solve this, or the issue returns.
When you schedule this service call, avoid rebooting any equipment for at least six hours. (This includes cable boxes, modems, and routers.) Reboots reset the signal error codes back to zero coming from the lines, and the tech needs to see those error codes. If the signal and drop line test is poor, the tech will do line/wiring updates that should resolve your box issue. If the signal and line test is good, the tech will need to replace the box.
