Re: Spectrum sends me an ancient two tuner DVR in self install kit in the mail

Updates,

Spectrum wants a guide and boxes that can run across multiple devices and platforms.  This is why World Box was implemented.  Cheaper economically to get customers on one operating system rather than running multiple boxes and guides.

The ODN-Navigator software and the six-tuner boxes are far superior to Spectrum's World Boxes and New Spectrum Guide in terms of quality and reliability.  World Box and Spectrum Guide are getting better.  But probably still have about another six months to a year to go before becoming a really good platform.  Word Box and Spectrum Guide are probably about 70% reliability.  ODN Navigator comes in at about 95% as long as you don't have an SA box, which are ancient as dinosaurs, and should not be in the field anymore.

The ONLY division that still runs ODN Guide on World Boxes is former Brighthouse Networks, main-based in Florida.  World Boxes on ODN run like a DREAM!  And there might be SOME Word Boxes from pre-installls that still have ODN Navigator on them.  However, keep the following in mind:

1.) World Boxes do not have Caller ID on them ready yet with new Spectrum Guide.  The theory for the delay is the lack of customer interest in landline phone technology.  But even TWC considered Caller ID on TV as a bonus and not a main component of CATV services.

2.) World Boxes WILL come with Spectrum Guide in all former TWC markets except BHN.  You will still get 1 TB of storage and 4-tuners.

3.) If a box with a clock is needed for Caller ID on TV, you will have to take a two-tuner DVR from Spectrum until Caller ID on TV is released for World Boxes in your market.  Spectrum will announce when this feature comes to World Boxes.

4.) Hold on to any six-tuner DVR's and guard them with your LIFE!  They are the best boxes out there, the Cisco 9865 and the Arris 3600. They will have Caller ID on TV in legacy TWC markets if you have Spectrum Landline Voice Service generally within 24 hours of installation.  And 1TB of storage on the six tuner boxes, PLUS the clock back!   It is devastating, that Spectrum is phasing out these six-tuner models!

5.) Legacy Charter markets under Spectrum have Caller ID on TV on World Boxes.  But not former TWC areas yet.  (Spectrum Voice Service Land Line phone required.)

6.) If you have a World Box, the good news at least is that you CAN use the older remote control on it, instead of the new remote that comes with it, a lot of customers prefer the older remote.
